Brick Script

Saw the movie Brick around a month ago. Highly recommended. Weird, cool, snarky, edgy. Fun. A film noir detective thriller set in a skewed high school scene. There's some great contextually understandable slang interspersed throughout the movie that reminded me of Alex and his droogs in A Clockwork Orange.

The author has webposted his script and other written material here. Fascinating.

La Posada Magica

I'm compelled to plug my God-daughter Tiffany Solano's upcoming performance in the South Coast Repertory production of La Posada Magica, which is one on the most wonderful holiday shows I've ever seen. I mean, it almost makes me want to have kids, so I could take them to see it. Almost.

If you're somewhere near Orange County this year end, go see this play.

RIP Basil Poledouris

As I've said before, film scores rule. Sadly, one of my favorite film score composers passed away yesterday, and it's everyone's loss. His score for Conan The Barbarian is still up there in my top 5, and I could listen to it another thousand times and not get tired of it. Here's a link to his website.

Vote Please

Ignore the ridiculous obfuscatory and mean spirited paid political TV advertising, do some research, and vote with your conscience and your cranium. Think hard about the choices you make. Your vote matters.

Current conventional wisdom indicates this election is all about Iraq. That may be true, but I personally don't accept it. I've come to the conclusion that US forces will be needed in Iraq for many years to come (at lower than current levels), but should be deployed as buttresses and advisors to the Iraqi army and police as needed, and not as front line targets. So be it.

No, for me, this election is about America, and trying to reinstate the pride I had for this country and our beliefs and our deeds. Sure, throughout our short history there always seems to have been some kind of governmental controversy or cover-up or scandal, but I've never felt such a grim weight of state oppression figuratively pressing on my back as I have in these tumultuous times. I'm sick of it.
